Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) defeated Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) by 18 runsin a thrilling Indian Premier League (IPL) match at the Ekana Stadium. It was a low-scoring affair as RCB managed to score only 126 runs batting first. However, theirbowlers rose to the occasion and bundled out LSG for just 108 runs.
After being put into bat, RCB got off to a good start with their openers Faf du Plessis and Virat Kohli adding 62 runs for the first wicket. However, LSG’s spinners Ravi Bishnoi and Amit Mishra put the brakes on the scoring rate, and RCB lost wickets at regular intervals.
LSG’s pacer Naveen-ul-Haq and spinners Amit Mishra and Ravi Bishnoi bowled with discipline and picked up crucial wickets to restrict RCB to a modest total.Chasing a target of 127 runs, LSG got off to a disastrous start as they lost their first three wickets for just 21 runs in 4.1 overs.
In the absence of regular captain KL Rahul, Kyle Mayers and Ayush Badoni opened the innings but failed to provide a good start. Krunal Pandya, who took over the captaincy, played a brief knock of 14 runs before being caught by Kohli off Maxwell.
LSG’s middle order failed to get going, and they kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Leg-spinner Karn Sharma accounted for Nicholas Pooran and Marcus Stoinis, while Bishnoi ran himself out, leaving LSG reeling at 77 for eight in 14,4 overs.
However, Naveen-ul-Haq and Amit Mishra put up a valiant fight with a 26-runpartnership for the ninth wicket, but it was not enough as LSG fell short by 18 runs.Rahul, who suffered a right thigh muscle injury early in the match, came out to battowards the end but failed to open his account.
The incident where Amit Mishra got in between Kohli and the umpire during the IPL match was a moment of levity in what become a fiercely competitive game.
